MADE 2012

Home is where...

Each year, the MADE festival provides a forum for an exciting blend of artistic expression and enlightening new experiences. The festival draws a curious audience of all ages, who come to enjoy performances by eminent artists from both near and far. MADE's 2011 theme is Home is where…. Also new this year is artistic director David Moss, originally from New York City, but now living in Berlin.

David Moss is a familiar face for many visitors to previous MADE festivals thanks to his many performances. His first appearance was in 2008 as a visiting vocalist, when he accompanied NorrlandsOperan's Symphony Orchestra in a very successful concert.

- I remember that I walked around the opera house completely amazed by the energy and mood there, the atmosphere of curiosity and the conversations that were taking place. Not to mention the interesting mix of the audience and the broad spectrum of different forms of artistic expression. I revelled in seeing how much fun people were having during those four days.

- Thanks to MADE, Umeå is "a home for something valuable and unique," says Moss and adds that he feels very honoured to be able to take over the reins as artistic director from Tina Eriksson Fredriksson.

Moss' artistic team uses the theme Home is where… as a kind of diving board from which to put together the event's programme. Moss would especially like to highlight one thing prior to this year's festival: everyone is welcome. He also takes the opportunity to deliver an invitation to those reading this text:

- Be in Umeå 9-12 May. It will be a four-day party filled with events, listening, doing, eating and socialising. Make yourself at home! This common home has no boundaries, only creative openings and room for life and fun.
