Principal Conductor Rumon Gamba
Rumon Gamba has served as the Principal Conductor and Musical Director of NorrlandsOperan´s Symphony Orchestra since the autumn of 2009. Prior to this, he held a position as conductor of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
Gamba was born in England in 1973. After studying at the Royal Academy of Music and then going on to win the Lloyds Bank BBC Young Musicians Conductors Workshop in 1998, Gamba has embarked upon an impressive career. He has been repeatedly engaged by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR's Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, the National Orchestra of Belgium, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also made guest appearances in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan. Gamba has also led the New York Philharmonic's youth concerts and children's concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2002, he was made an Associate at London’s Royal Academy of Music.
Gamba specialises in film music and has a recording contract with Chandos, which released his Grammy-nominated Korngold CD, three volumes of Vaughan Williams' music and music by Bliss, Bax, Malcolm Arnold and several other composers.
At NorrlandsOperan, Gamba is part of the artistic leadership team and is responsible for the orchestra's musical development.
