Marilyn Mazur är född 1955 i New York och har bott i Danmark sedan hon var 6 år. När hon var liten spelade hon piano, klassisk musik, och dansade balett. Sin musikaliska karriär inledde hon som dansare 1971 med Creative Dance Theatre. Hon bildade sitt första band, Zirenes, som kompositör och pianist 1973. Sedan mitten av sjuttiotalet har hon sedan arbetat som slagverkare och sångare i flera olika konstellationer.

What would you like the audience in Umeå to experience?
– Joy, curiosity and beauty. And of course; energy!
How would you describe your music?
– To be short; itZs adventurousness, colorful, dreamy and dramatic .
What influenses has been important for you?
– Well…life! And all the experiences and people in life…
Tell us a little about how you work?
– Ideas and images form in my mind, feelings in my body. I try to capture them in my music, when I compose and when I play.
What are your plans for the coming years?
– Many! Different constellations, tours and and comissions. In january my CD-solo and duo with Jan Garbarek is coming out on ECM, and I am extremely happy with this.
